Galway Harbour Company was established in succession to Galway Harbour Commissioners on 3rd March 1997. The Company has twelve directors. The Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources appoints the Chairman and seven others to the harbour board as directors. Galway City Council nominates two directors and Galway County Council nominates one director. The C.E.O. is an ex officio director. The directors serve a five-year term.In addition to the C.E.O. who is also Company Secretary, the Harbour Board employs a Harbour Master, two pilots, three clerical staff and six outdoor general operatives.
